So, you've decided to start running.
Okay, you've decided to someday start running.
Okay, you saw a commercial on television for a pair of running shoes and thought it would be cool to be a runner, then changed the channel to catch the latest episode of The Biggest Loser.
Believe it or not, whichever category you find yourself in, you are still one step closer to becoming a runner. This is a good thing. Study after study has proven that running can lower blood pressure and increase mental acuity, as well as helping to prevent bone and muscle loss. Hands down (or should I say feet?), running is one of the best ways to get in shape, stay healthy, and learn more about yourself than you ever thought you would. That said, there are a few things you should know before you abandon Bob and Gillian altogether.
At Your Peak, A Driving Tour of Pikes Peak

Colorado is one of the few states famous for being home to what are reverently referred to as “fourteeners”, mountains that have the unique distinction of topping 14,000 feet above sea level. One of the most well-known among our fourteeners is Pikes Peak, also known as America's Mountain. Just a short drive from Colorado Springs, Pikes Peak is a must-see when visiting or relocating to the area. Each year, roughly 100,000 people drive the 19 miles of winding road known as the Pikes Peak Highway to make their way to the summit house, measuring an impressive 14,110 feet. Another 400,000 or so choose to hike the 13-mile Barr Trail, beginning in Manitou Springs, or ride the 8.9 mile cog railroad, which operates year round. Pikes Peak is not the highest peak in Colorado, but still enough to take your breath away. Literally.

( 6 Votes )Colorado Springs is such a beautiful place, you can hike here frequently for years and continue to enjoy new scenic vistas. While there are many hikes on our wish list we have yet to try, this article gives some suggestions of particularly enjoyable hikes showcasing some of Colorado Springs’ best natural treasures to share with out-of-town visitors. It goes without saying that Pike’s Peak offers an amazing hike, but we’re leaving it off of this list, as many out of town visitors would opt to travel the Cog Train or the Pike’s Peak Highway instead of making the 12.6 mile hike up Barr Trail to the summit.
